Tokens, credits and Gold explained

One idea, four names

Every platform in our review sells a prepaid unit and spends it on your behalf. What differs is the label, and the label tells you something about the business model behind it.

• Tokens are the unit on tip-based sites: Chaturbate, Stripchat, BongaCams, CamSoda, Cam4 and MyFreeCams. They are spent in whole numbers on tips, private and spy shows and ticket shows.
• Credits are the unit on premium, private-first sites: LiveJasmin, Flirt4Free, ImLive and XLoveCam. They are mostly spent per minute in private shows.
• Gold is the unit on Streamate and its white-label front end Jerkmate, spent per minute and on tips. Confusingly, 'Gold' also names Cam4's membership tier and BongaCams' member status, which are not currencies.
• Coins and branded names such as 'Cherry Bucks' appear on smaller platforms outside our twelve. They work the same way.

The glossary entry is the short version. The mechanics that follow apply whatever the name.

Why 100 tokens is not the same value everywhere

Three things make a unit count meaningless on its own. Exchange rate: each platform sets its own price per unit, and they are not aligned, so a 100-token tip on one site and a 100-credit tip on another can differ several times over in cash terms. Package size: the same platform sells the unit at different prices depending on how many you buy at once, so two viewers tipping 100 tokens may have paid different amounts for them. Region and currency: BongaCams is reported to price packages in USD or EUR depending on where you are, XLoveCam prices credits in euros, and Streamate shows per-minute rates in your local currency before you enter paid chat.

There is a fourth complication on the Gold platforms: Jerkmate does not state the cash value of Gold on its public pages (reported), so the only reliable number is the one on the purchase screen. The habit to build is simple: never compare unit counts across platforms, only cost per minute or cost per tip in your own currency.

How packages are priced

Packages follow the same structure everywhere: a handful of sizes, with the price per unit falling as the package grows. Cam4's official help centre states this outright, and independent reports describe the same shape for Chaturbate, Stripchat and LiveJasmin. We do not reproduce package prices on this site because the only figures available to us were third-party quotes that may be stale or regional; the price you see on the purchase page is the one that counts.

The structure rewards bulk buying, which is exactly what a first-time viewer should resist. A large package is only cheaper per unit if you use all of it; on a platform whose currency expires, or one you visit once, the small package is the better deal. Around the packages sit several extras, all optional:

• First-purchase perks: MyFreeCams grants Premium status after a first purchase; BongaCams grants Gold status (reported); CamSoda reports a first-purchase bonus.
• Sign-up bonuses: Flirt4Free is reported to give free credits on registration and BongaCams a small token bonus for verifying your email. Treat these as a taste, not as money.
• Memberships that bundle units: CamSoda Premium and Flirt4Free VIP are reported to include units in the monthly fee. Cam4 Gold can be bought with tokens rather than cash, according to the official help centre.
• Auto-recharge: LiveJasmin is reported to offer an automatic top-up option. Check whether it is switched on before your first private show.

Do tokens expire?

Sometimes, and it is worth being honest about how little is documented. ImLive credits are reported by independent reviews to expire 30 days after purchase, which makes its larger packages a poor fit for occasional viewers; verify on the purchase page before buying. A third-party review reports that Cam4 tokens expire after six months, but the official help-centre pages we read do not mention it, so we treat that as unverified. For the other ten platforms we found no published expiry rule, which does not mean there is none: read the terms on the purchase screen, and treat any unit balance as money you intend to spend soon rather than a savings account.

Per-minute billing, explained

A private show is metered: a rate per minute is deducted from your balance for as long as the session runs. Who sets the rate varies. On Chaturbate, Stripchat, LiveJasmin, ImLive, MyFreeCams and Streamate the broadcaster sets it and it is shown in the room, on the tile or before you enter; on BongaCams, per-minute rates for spy, private, group and full private are widely reported to be standardised across the site. Several variations change the arithmetic:

• Spy access is a reduced per-minute rate to watch a private you are not part of. See spy show.
• Exclusive or true private costs more per minute because spying is disabled. See exclusive private.
• Cam2cam and two-way audio are sometimes billed as add-ons: LiveJasmin lists both as extras, and Stripchat's cam2cam is reported to carry its own per-minute rate.
• Ticket, Golden Ticket and Candy Shows replace the meter with a fixed ticket price or a shared goal. See ticket show.
• Block Sessions and prepaid sessions sell a fixed length upfront: Streamate is reported to offer 15 to 60 minute blocks at a discount, and ImLive offers prepaid sessions.

The meter runs on the platform's clock, not yours, so a slow connection or a moment spent reading chat still costs a minute. Streamate documents an adjustable daily spending limit, which is the only platform-side brake we found; elsewhere the brake is the size of the package you bought. Normalising cost with the token calculator

Because every platform quotes rates in its own unit, the only fair comparison is cost per minute in your currency. Our token calculator does the arithmetic and prefills nothing, for the reasons above. Three steps:

1. Enter the package you are looking at: the price the purchase page shows you and the number of units it contains. The calculator turns that into a cost per unit.
2. Enter the private rate of the room you are interested in, in units per minute, and the number of minutes you have in mind. You get a cost per minute, a cost for that session, and how many minutes one package buys at that rate.
3. Optionally enter a tip amount to see what it costs in cash, then repeat for a second platform or a second package size. Larger packages lower the per-unit figure, so compare like with like.

Use the room's own rate where it is visible before login (Stripchat's rate-band filters, LiveJasmin's tile prices, CamSoda's bands, Streamate's local-currency rate) and the purchase page's package figure where it is not.
